Pastor Jamal Bryant is standing up for his wife, Dr. Karri Bryant, after he says she faced some criticism for a dress that she wore at a gala in December.Â
Jamal took to Instagram on Jan. 2, where he defended Karri after she faced criticism for wearing a nude illusion and black lace colored ballgown to the 2025 UNCF Atlanta Mayor’s Masked Ball, according to PEOPLE. “I needed to deal with this head-on. Because the other day, the internet went crazy about a dress my wife had on,” Jamal said in the video. “They never said anything about how this was the largest fundraiser for HBCUs in the country. But insecure, jealous, petty, small-minded people got in their feelings and set up a false barometer of holiness based off of a dress.”
Karri took to Instagram on Dec. 21, where she posted a video recapping their time at the Masked Ball. In the video, Karri can be seen wearing the ballgown, which featured a full, black skirt and a nude-illusion colored bodice with a black lace overlay, while Jamal looked dapper in a black tuxedo as he attended the event alongside her.
Jamal continued in his sermon after the event, where he made some clarifications about the dress. “Now, you got to help some people, because some people are going to embrace the full knowledge of ignorance without any assistance for understanding. The dress was not see-through, the dress was flesh-colored,” he added. “I needed to set the record straight: I bought the dress! And I like it. I don’t care whether you like it or not, she ain’t married to all. She married to me.”

Karri then took to the comments of Jamal’s Instagram post, where she thanked her husband for defending her and shared some major insight into their marriage. “I Love You Baby!” she wrote. “Thank you!”
