Patricia Altschul Reveals Butler Plans After Michael Kelcourse

Patricia Altschul is hiring a new butler, nearly one year after her beloved friend and former butler, Michael Kelcourse, passed away.

How to Watch

Watch Southern Charm on Bravo Thursdays at 8/7c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on Bravo.

The Southern Charm matriarch took to Instagram on Sept. 16, where she posted a throwback clip from Southern Charm, where she interviewed a second butler to help out around the house. Michael worked for Patricia and her family for nearly 18 years until 2021, when he moved to Florida after suffering a spinal cord stroke.

“Now that Michael is sadly no longer with us, I have decided it’s time to find a new live-in butler,” she wrote in the caption of the post.

The duties for this new butler include some “light cooking” in her gorgeous, updated kitchen; chauffeuring her around; and being “comfortable with filming.” But, most importantly, applicants must know how to make a good gin martini. Of course, the applicant “must love animals” as Patricia is an animal lover and has many pets.

References are required, and serious applicants are asked to apply through e-mail. A live-in butler will seriously help around Patricia’s historic Charleston mansion, as she currently is writing her first-ever memoir.

Michael passed away in October 2024, weeks after Patricia revealed that he had suffered another stroke. Patricia took to Instagram at the time, where she posted a touching tribute to her longtime friend.

“In Loving Memory of Michael Kelcourse,” she wrote.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Michael, who left us yesterday morning in Sarasota. More than just a devoted butler, he was a trusted friend, confidant, and member of our family for over 20 years,” she continued.

“Michael’s time on Southern Charm endeared him to many, as his humor and kindness quickly made him a fan favorite. Over the past two weeks, he was deeply touched by the incredible number of cards and well-wishes from fans. I’ve been told there were hundreds, and they brought him immense joy in his final days,” she added, noting that Michael will be “greatly missed.”
