A Pennsylvania man stabbed his 3-month-old son, telling the infant’s mother he had to sacrifice the child.
Michael Phillips, 44, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and other charges, the Chester County District Attorney’s Office said. The baby remains hospitalized.
The murderous incident happened last Wednesday. Police were called to the scene at about 11:30 a.m. and learned from the infant’s mother that Phillips came at her with a knife, saying he had to sacrifice the baby. He made multiple attempts to stab the child, but only hit him once, after which the mother took the baby and her 9-year-old son and left the house.
The 9-year-old ran for help, but Phillips followed them out and grabbed the baby from his mother’s arms and threw him into the snow. The mother then “used her body to shield her child from further harm until first responders arrived.”
According to an affidavit filed in the case, officers saw blood on Phillips shirt and he was captured on body camer footage saying, “I did it, God, I did it.” He also said, “This was all part of God’s plan.”
The infant was quickly transported to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia once those first responders were on the scene, according to the Coatesville Police Department.
In addition to attempted murder and aggravated assault, Phillips was charged with endangering the welfare of children, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person. He was ordered held without bond.
