PHILADELPHIA (TCD) — A 28-year-old woman and her 30-year-old boyfriend were arrested over the weekend on suspicion of killing her 4-year-old son, who remains missing.
According to WCAU-TV, Damari Carter was reported missing to the Philadelphia Police Department on Dec. 30 after family members became concerned because they had not seen the boy since his birthday on Nov. 25. Carter’s mother, Dominique Bailey, reportedly told relatives the child was hit by a car and killed, but detectives from the department’s Special Victims Unit did not find evidence to corroborate that.
Bailey reportedly spoke with investigators Jan. 4 and allegedly shared details about playing a role in her son’s death. Police executed a search warrant at her residence on the 3800 block of Reno Street and arrested Bailey’s boyfriend, Kevin Spencer.
Court records show Bailey and Spencer are being charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal use of communication facility, abuse of a corpse, false reporting, and tampering with evidence.
Metro Philadelphia reports Bailey called her ex, Darryle Carter, and said their son had been killed in the crash. Carter contacted the medical examiner’s offices in the area, but none of them had any records relating to his death. Carter, who lives in Texas, said he last saw his son in April.
He told Metro Philadelphia, “I got nothing but good memories of my son, and it’s sad that he had to go through that. He didn’t deserve that. He was an angel. He was like a mini version of me.”
Investigators are still searching for Carter’s body.
