Police in Delaware have canceled an AMBER Alert for a 3-year-old after her mother allegedly filed a false abduction report.
KKTV 11 reports that, according to Master Corporal Richard Chambers, the mother said a man in his 40s pulled a gun on a woman and took her daughter, Nola Dinkins, at around 7:15 p.m. after she pulled over in the 500 block of Gender Road in Ogletown.
The man walked up, took the child, and put her in the backseat of a car driven by a woman, according to what the mother told police, Chambers said.
The FBI, along with investigators, launched an “intensive investigation that continued through the night,” New Castle County Police Sgt. Andrea Botterbusc said, Delaware Online reports.
FOX 5 reports police subsequently canceled the alert Wednesday and the case is now a homicide investigation.
“The Amber alert is now canceled and there’s no danger to the public,” Botterbusch said. “Sadly, this incident is now being treated as a homicide investigation.”
Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact 911.
