New details are emerging about the deaths of a pregnant Texas teenager and her boyfriend, including how the couple were found and their relationship before they were killed.
As CrimeOnline reported previously, the bodies of 18-year-old Savanah Soto and 22-year-old Matthew Guerra were discovered Tuesday in a vehicle in San Antonio. Both had been shot in the head, and the unborn baby also died.
Authorities said it appeared the couple had been executed.
“Clearly, it was a heinous act,” San Antonio Police Chief Bill McManus said during a press conference, according to FOX. “It was unspeakable, the tragedy of it.”
Soto had been reported missing on December 22, one day before she was scheduled to have an induced labor. She never showed up to her appointment.
McManus said the deaths may be a murder-suicide, but he does not believe that is the case. No gun was found in the car, and investigators are pursuing a theory that the couple was killed somewhere else and then their bodies were moved to the apartment complex where they were found.
Security cameras recorded an unknown person driving the victim’s vehicle, a gray Kia, and then being picked up in a dark Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by a second unknown person.
Meanwhile, former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer speculated on social media that Soto and Guerra had been caught up in “gang life” in an apparent reference to the 2022 death of Soto’s brother, who was murdered after stealing THC cartridges, according to The Messenger.
Guerra has a criminal history, including charges of unlawfully carrying a weapon, evading police, and assault, which involved Soto, according to KENS5.
“He didn’t hang around the best crowd,” Guerra’s father, Gabriel Guerra, told the television station.
But Gabriel added that his son and Soto had reconciled and were living together, and they were looking forward to the birth of the baby they named Fabian.
“They were inseparable,” Gabriel told KENS5. “Was it a perfect relationship? No, but she definitely was not a prisoner there. Her and Matthew were both overjoyed and couldn’t wait for Fabian’s arrival.”
