It’s apparently been a rough week for the former spouse of Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., but police announced Wednesday that the lawmaker has been cleared of domestic violence accusations made by her now ex-husband after a dramatic dispute at a local restaurant.
That ex-husband, however, is now facing charges of his own.
Police records reviewed by Law&Crime confirmed that Jayson Boebert, 43, was arrested and faces no less than six charges for two separate incidents that occurred this week in the Mile High State.
Arrested on Tuesday and discharged from jail in Garfield County the same day, court records indicate Jayson Boebert was charged with disorderly conduct, obstruction of a peace officer and trespass in the third degree for a Jan. 6 incident involving his ex-wife at a restaurant in Silt, Colorado known as Miner’s Claim. A request for further details from the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office was not immediately returned to Law&Crime.
NBC affiliate KUSA reported that an arrest affidavit stated a domestic dispute was reported just around 8 p.m. The first call was disconnected. A secondary call from Lauren Boebert, 37, followed in which the lawmaker told police “I just touched his nose” as her husband was reportedly heard yelling in the background about her punching him in the face.
The outburst was allegedly sparked by a tense conversation over their new respective romantic partners.
The announcement from the Silt Police Department stated simply: “Due to a lack of any evidence, the allegations of domestic violence against Rep. Lauren Boebert are unfounded and the investigation into Rep. Lauren Boebert is closed.”
Lauren Boebert recently made headlines for being thrown out of a stage production of Beetlejuice for causing a disturbance. Video footage from the theater showed her and a male companion fondling each other mid-show. The lawmaker was also heard singing and talking loudly and was accused by witnesses of vaping during the family-friendly performance.
Lauren Boebert told police she believed her ex-husband made the allegations because he was trying to “make her suffer” since the divorce, KUSA reported. Jayson Boebert told police his ex-wife had punched him twice: once at the bar and once before they arrived there when they were at his home. A witness who was not identified by police allegedly told them he watched Jayson Boebert get hit in the face at Miner’s Claim, KUSA reported.
Believed to be inebriated, police said Jayson Boebert was asked to leave the restaurant more than a half-dozen times on Jan. 6, but to no avail. Officers allegedly had to forcibly remove him from the establishment while he clung to a doorframe. Immediately following the episode, Lauren Boebert issued a public statement saying she had not punched her husband and she was exploring legal options against him for false claims.
The second incident involving Jayson Boebert occurred Jan. 9 and allegedly involved the former couple’s son. These charges involve misdemeanor harassment, third degree assault, which is a misdemeanor, and prohibited use of a weapon, also a misdemeanor.
