During Season 12, Episode 5, Miss Quad packed her bags for Ghana, where she was scheduled to undergo a third round of egg retrievals, when King brought up the possibility that her upcoming doctor’s appointment in Africa might not result in a pregnancy.

“We’re gonna be hopeful, but we’ve gotta be practical at the same time,” he cautioned Quad, who replied, “What am I not being practical about? You told me you didn’t mind. You just said all we have to do was just make more money. You said you didn’t mind. So, what’s happening?”

King responded by saying that Quad’s fertility treatments, along with everything else that they entail, had been “nonstop.” He also pointed out that they had both been under the impression that their travels abroad would be “one and done,” but instead, they were already gearing up for their third trip to Ghana.

“The IVF has definitely taken a toll on the relationship,” King revealed in a joint confessional. “So, it’s like you get out of the honeymoon stage and then you go straight into this IVF process. … It’s been a significant impact.”

Quad, meanwhile, explained to him that there’s “nothing like having a child who loves you unconditionally.”

“But do you let it overconsume you?” King asked her. “Or is there a point where we’re like, ‘Hey, this is practical; this is working,’ or ‘It’s taken too much away from our other lives outside of IVF.'”

Inside Quad and King’s parenthood discussion on Married to Medicine

Back in her home, Quad insisted to King that she did not want to come across as if she was “forcing” him into starting a family with her.

She also praised King for being by her side and supporting her “ever since day one” when she told him that her “dream” was to become a mom.

“You literally stopped your job. I recognize the sacrifices that you’ve made for me,” Quad told him, also owning up to having an “attitude,” at times. “I never want you to think, like, I don’t see what you’re doing for me, OK?”

In their joint confessional, she added, “You might look at it a bit different, you know, and I have to acknowledge that, too, because you have a daughter.”

King, for his part, admitted, “And I have to try to look at it from the perspective that you don’t have kids. So, I mean, I think it takes us both trying to see where each other’s at.”

Details on Quad Webb and King’s relationship challenges amid the IVF process

Previously during Episode 3, King candidly discussed how the “hell” of Quad’s self-injections amid their IVF journey included her having “mood swings” and “rage” toward him.

Quad also described herself “crying a lot” with the hormonal changes, before expressing her appreciation to King for his “grace” and “understanding,” through it all.

“Sticking yourself a couple of times a day, every single day gets exhausting and tiring,” she elaborated to a producer. “But despite all the side effects, it still will be well worth it to me to become a mom.”

As King remarked, “If we get the results that we’re seeking, it will definitely be worth it. If not, I could’ve bought another car.”

As you await the results of her third egg retrieval, find out why Quad wanted to share her “very raw and vulnerable” IVF journey with Married to Medicine viewers.
