Rex Heuermann’s Wife Visits Him Jail, Plans to Attend Accused Serial Killer’s Murder Trial – Crime Online

Accused Long Island serial killer Rex Heuermann’s wife says she plans to attend his upcoming murder trial in New York, to see for herself what evidence will be presented against him.

DailyMail reports that Asa Ellerup’s lawyer, Robert Macedonio, confirmed that Ellerup, who filed for divorce against Heuremann earlier this year, wants to gain firsthand insight into the case by watching the presentation of allegations and testimony at trial.

“She wants to hear and see how it is played out in court. Not what the media has put out. Not what the podcast people are saying,” Macedonio told the Daily Mail. “She wants to hear and see for herself what is presented in court.”

“She wants to see and hear for herself what evidence they have that he did this.”

Police arrested Heuermann in July for the deaths of three of the four women known collectively as the “Gilgo Four.” The bodies were found within days of each other on Gilgo Beach in December 2010. All four women were buried in burlap sacks.

Heuermann is now charged with six counts of murder in the deaths of Melissa Barthelemy, 24; Megan Waterman, 22; and Amber Lynn Costello, 27; and is the prime suspect in the death of 25-year-old Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Ellerup made her first visit to see Heuermann at the Riverhead Correctional Facility earlier this month. Macedonio said she hadn’t seen him in person since the day before his arrest and their two adult children did not accompany her.

“She is doing fine. She is holding up well. She had a visit with Rex on Wednesday afternoon and spent about an hour with him,” Macedonio told DailyMail. “I did not get into discussion what the content of the conversation was.”

“It is the same as every other visitor she has to go through the same routine, one hour visit, there is no special treatment for Rex as another prisoner…She made her reservation for the visitation just like everyone else does through the sheriff’s office policy at the Riverhead Correctional Facility.”

Heuermann pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. He remains behind bars without bail.
