The search continues for a missing 19-year-old Illinois teen, who vanished after leaving to get gas at a nearby gas station.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Dacara Thompson, 19, was last seen August 22 at her father, Daniel Thompson’s, home in Lanham. She reportedly left to get gas for her 2013 white Ford Edge, and never returned.
Daniel Thompson said she sent him a text at 11:50 p.m., telling him, “I got gas & I’m out. I should be back soon. I love you too. Goodnight
“She just said I’m going out. I’ll be back,” he told WUSA9.
The following morning, she still hadn’t returned home.
When her mother, Carmen Thompson, checked the Find My Phone app, she noticed her daughter’s location sharing had been turned off.
Her last known location was the intersection of Jasmine Terrace and Riggs Road, in Langley Park. Her vehicle was found parked in front of a fire hydrant at Jasmine Terrace and Riggs Road.
Dacara’s father said that cash, her purse and debit cards were found inside the vehicle. Her cellphone was missing and had been disabled.
A neighbor’s security footage showed someone that appeared to be Dacara exiting the SUV Saturday, and walking toward Riggs Road at around 1:30 a.m.
“It was very unusual because I have never known her to come to this area,” her mother said, according to NBC4 Washington. “We’ve never discussed anything about ever coming to meet anyone over in this area. We don’t know anyone in this area.”
Prince George’s County police told the outlet that Thompson is not considered critically missing, since she’s an adult and left on her own will. However, they will continue to investigate the case.
Meanwhile, local community leaders are hoping to find assistance in the search effort for Thompson.
“See what nonprofit they’re working for to see if we can give support in that way from the council,” Wanika Fisher, Prince George’s County Council member for District 2, said.
“Something I committed to the family is I’m gonna look be looking at our rules and our standards around missing person reporting here in the county, especially for maybe our young people to see if there’s anything we can adjust to make things easier and make sure law enforcement are on things even sooner.”
Dacara was last seen wearing a dark-colored jacket and denim jeans, according to ABC 2 Baltimore. She has tattoos on her left arm and on the right side of her body.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts is urged to contact Prince George’s County Police Department.
