The Real Housewives of Atlanta‘s Kim Zolciak is back in the salon chair and giving fans a front-row seat to her hair and beauty routine.
On Sept. 16, the busy mom of six published a fab photo on her Instagram Stories, showing her caped and ready to go in the Georgia-based hair studio The Salty Mane. She captured a mirror selfie while a hairdresser blew her hair out, showing off her long, blonde waves and revealing, “Gray coverage every 4 weeks,” part of what Kim does to maintain her image. She added the caption, “All my hair,” with a pink-heart emoji.
The touch-up is the latest of several looks for the “Tardy for the Party” singer, whose love affair with wigs and extensions has captivated RHOA audiences since the beginning. It wasn’t her first time at The Salty Mane either. She credited the salon for being behind another one of her root touch-ups in May, where Kim delved more into her silver strands.

In May, the now-47-year-old posted a “Hair Day” photo, where she hit up the business for her routine color. She captioned, “Fun fact: I’ve been 100% gray since I was 35. I get my roots done every months.”

However, the most surprising part about her post was Kim’s confession that her hair color was on the opposite side of the spectrum when she was a kid. As Kim admitted, “I actually had almost black hair as a child,” sharing a shocking throwback photo of herself in the eighth grade with tall, late-’80s/early ’90s curly hair.
In 2020, while still married to NFL linebacker Kroy Biermann, she also revealed hubby helped her keep the blonde in check during the COVID-19 pandemic. She confessed on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, “Kroy’s colored my hair for years because my hairdresser is in Arizona. So I go, like, every three months, or she’ll come here. But, in between … I mean, I’m 100% gray, so every three weeks he colors my roots.”
What’s more, during COVID-19, Kim had her Arizona-based artist send her the color formula so she and Kroy could keep up, according to People. She said it was “the only time there’s a little bit of animosity because my bangs are really important. It’s all my own hair in front, so I just slide the wig back so he can color the roots.”

Touching on the frustrations of going gray, Kim said, “It’s f–king bulls–t! I’m Italian, and I feel like Italian people definitely go grayer faster.”
She was especially hard on herself because, as the daughter of a hairdresser mother, Kim “grew up in hair salons” her whole life.

But why does she wear wigs? Well, back in 2015, she said it was just “easier” that way. She doubled down on the sentiment in 2019 when telling her IG followers it was simply convenient, too.
“It’s just easier for me!!,” said Kim. “I can’t imagine sitting in hair and makeup for two hours a day!”
