WASILLA, Alaska (TCN) —Â A 52-year-old man will spend five decades behind bars in addition to an 85-year sentence he is already serving for kidnapping a juvenile girl, covering her head, tying her up, and sexually assaulting her.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Alaska announced that David Anderson was sentenced July 2 to 50 years in prison and ordered to serve the rest of his life on supervised release. He previously pleaded guilty in January to one count of kidnapping a minor and one count of committing an offense as a registered sex offender.
According to court documents, a 14-year-old girl began walking home from the school bus on Nov. 2, 2022, when Anderson drove past her, turned around, and then headed back toward her. Anderson reportedly pulled up to the young teen, “coerced her into the vehicle,” and aimed a revolver at her. Authorities said the defendant covered the girl’s head with a blanket and punched her at least once in the face before binding her hands with duct tape.
According to federal prosecutors, Anderson drove the girl to a remote area, where he brought the victim into the woods with her head still covered. The defendant reportedly forcibly sexually assaulted the 14-year-old. Authorities said he then “stood over her, shielded his eyes, and randomly shot at her with the revolver.”
Anderson reportedly failed to check if she was dead and fled in his vehicle. Prosecutors said he “disassembled the revolver and threw the pieces into a nearby river.”
After the defendant left, the 14-year-old girl was able to escape the restraints, and she flagged down a passing vehicle for help. Troopers arrested the defendant later that day.
Upon further investigation, authorities learned that on the day of the attack, Anderson “decided to grab his revolver and go out looking for a victim.” At the time, he was a convicted sex offender stemming from an incident in 2000 in which he sexually assaulted a minor.
Anderson was also charged by the Alaska Department of Law in the incident and sentenced in October 2024 to 85 years in jail, as well as 20 years of supervised probation and sex offender registration and treatment.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Michael Heyman for the District of Alaska said, “Mr. Anderson perpetrated an unimaginable random act of horror and will spend the rest of his life in the only appropriate place, prison. The survivor showed extraordinary bravery in escaping this horror, and the Alaska State Troopers and FBI mounted an incredible investigation to hold this predator accountable.”
