Shots fired outside Florida bar after argument erupts over how many eggs chickens lay

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (TCN) — A late-night argument about chickens led to shots being fired outside a bar last week.

Officers with the Port St. Lucie Police Department arrived at a pub after the alleged shooter called 911 to say what he had done, WPBF News reports. The suspect, Peter Riera, 44, had fired four rounds from a .45-caliber Glock at three other bar patrons when their argument became heated, police said.

“There was a conversation about how many, I kid you not, how many eggs a chicken can lay. And that conversation got a little heated, and as it went out into the parking lot, the conversation continued, and the shooter became agitated, became paranoid,” WSB-TV reports that Sgt. Dominick Mesiti said.

Riera met the other three patrons, who all knew each other, that night, and once they moved their conversation outside when the pub closed, Riera allegedly smoked marijuana and became paranoid that the others were trying to con him, the outlet reports. Shortly after, he fired four shots, and the other three patrons ran for cover.

WPEC-TV reports that no one was hurt. Riera was arrested for three counts of attempted aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, four counts of discharging a firearm in public, and one count of use of a firearm while under the influence. He is being held without bond.

WPEC reports that two of the other group members were arrested for obstruction or resisting arrest.
