A man allegedly fatally shot his parents in two different counties before killing himself after shooting a deputy and a dog, authorities said.
Fox 7 Austin reported that the Texas Department of Public Safety performed a welfare check around 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the 11700 block of Hillbrook in Harris County. Officers found a woman dead from a gunshot wound.
The Department of Public Safety contacted the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators later determined the death was connected to another incident around 90 miles away in Leon County. The woman was identified as the shooter’s mother.
In Leon County, the suspect allegedly shot and killed a man believed to be his father. As officers attempted to enter the home, the suspect shot a deputy and a dog, then turned the gun on himself.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the deputy was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive. The dog died at the scene.
Investigations are ongoing. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is handling the case in Harris County, while Texas DPS is leading the investigation in Leon County.
