LEXINGTON, S.C. (TCD) — A father faces a murder charge after allegedly telling his son to shoot their 36-year-old neighbor during a confrontation about a trespassing incident last week.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Office alleges the fatal shooting took place on Wednesday, Dec. 6, on Seleta Circle. According to the statement, Ryan Jordan Sr. took a machete away from their neighbor and then told his son, Ryan Lindler Jr., to shoot the man.
The Lexington County Coroner positively identified the victim as Kevin Newhouse.
Further investigation revealed the shooting stemmed from a confrontation between the Lindlers and Newhouse. According to the sheriff’s office, the men reportedly fought about a “trespassing incident they said happened just before at another address.”
According to arrest warrants obtained by the Lexington County Chronicle, after the trespassing incident, the Lindlers tracked Newhouse to his home, where Newhouse allegedly pulled out a machete and swung it toward them. Before the shooting, the sheriff’s office alleges the Lindlers “prevented Newhouse from going back into his house.”
Lindler Jr. reportedly told officials his dad was hit with the machete, and then he took out his handgun and shot the victim.
Other individuals reportedly came out of the woods, so the Lindlers left, and Lindler Jr. called 911.
According to the Lexington Chronicle, Lindler Jr. told deputies the handgun and machete were in his vehicle. Officials found a six-round Glock magazine in his possession with multiple rounds.
Deputes apprehended Lindler Sr. and Lindler Jr. and booked them into the Lexington County Detention Center. They were each charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime and remain held without bond.
