Police in South Carolina arrested a Spartanburg man Saturday and charged with a domestic assault on his wife.
Spartanburg Police responded to a home Saturday afternoon, where a woman said her husband, 68-year-old Michael Disantos, had threatened her when she smoked his last cigarette, WHNS reported. When he tried to leave to buy more cigarettes, she said, she took his keys because he was drunk.
That was when he punched her in the face. Officers saw blood and bruising on her face when they responded to a neighbor’s home, where she fled after the assault.
Police went to the Disantos home and spoke to Michael Disantos, who initially denied hitting or threatening his wife. He told police he was angry with her for drinking his alcohol and smoking his cigarettes and refusing to let him have either. Officers said he smelled of alcohol and tried to stand several times but could not not.
Eventually, he admitted hitting her, and then police found blood on his knuckles and on the floor leading to the kitchen.
The wife also told police that her husband was angry because she wanted him to seek treatment for his alcoholism.
Disantos was charged with third degree domestic violence and was ordered held on a $1,500 bond with orders to stay away from his wife if he’s released, Law&Crime reported. He returns to court in February.
