Steven McBee Jr. is opening up like never before about his many feelings ahead of his father’s Oct. 16 federal prison sentencing.
Steven McBee Sr. previously pleaded guilty to multi-million-dollar federal crop insurance fraud in November 2024, and he now faces several years in federal prison and millions of dollars in restitution. And though his son Steven Jr. held his cards close to his chest about the looming FBI investigation against his father on Season 2 of The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys, he opened up about the matter in an exclusive interview with The Daily Dish at the end of August.
Steven Jr., more specifically, admitted to feeling “scared, nervous, anything, and everything” in the weeks leading up to his father’s hearing. “We love him so much, and love our family unit,” Steven Jr. continued. “So, to picture him not being here with us for any amount of time, it’s scary.”
Steven Sr.’s starring role on The McBee Dynasty’s debut season allowed audiences to take note of his absence from the sophomore season amid his mounting legal woes. Still, his presence never felt far, which is what Steven Jr. described heading closer to the court date.
“We’re focusing on the positive things we have going, of which there are so many, but I’d be lying if I said that black cloud hasn’t been hanging over us every second of every day since we first found out,” Steven Jr. said. “We’re ready to get past that day, deal with whatever comes of it, and move on, to say the least. We know no matter what, if we stick together as a family, we’ll make it through anything.”
Why the McBee family is rallying around Steven McBee Sr. ahead of his sentencing
The air in the barn became heavy when, on the Season 2 finale, Steven Jr. revealed to brothers Jesse McBee and Cole McBee that their father was under federal investigation. Jesse confessed to producers, “My dad, he’s 51 years old. He’s getting up there in age. I’m definitely a little scared at the thought of my dad going to jail.”
Steven Sr.’s ex-wife Kristi McBee also came to Steven Sr.’s defense, adding, “You know, we don’t know what all is going to happen with Steve, but there’s a lot of love between us all.”
Added Steven Jr. while speaking to The Daily Dish, “We just love and support our dad and we know who he is. We know how hard he works, and how much he cares about us boys and our family.”

Do Steven Jr., Jesse, and Cole McBee still work at McBee Farm & Cattle?
Yes. As for their roles, each one of the brothers is doing their part to keep the family business afloat. “We’re still learning day by day kind of how it’s all going to play out and our different roles,” Jesse told Us Weekly in an August interview. “I’d say we’ve kind of settled into what we’re going to do.”
It was Steven Jr., Jesse said, who was “kind of leading the charge” in his role of acting CEO and taking the reins on the family’s meat business. As seen on Season 2, the eldest struck a six-figure deal with Arthur Bryant’s Barbeque, a Kansas City staple for barbecue food, as a supplier of brisket.
As for Cole, he took a bigger role on the farm side and as “head of construction and running the stuff down in the city while trying to help out during our busy seasons up here at the farm,” Jesse said.

The McBee brothers — who also have a chain of car washes across the state — otherwise continue to preserve what they’ve built and pass their legacy on with the new generation, starting with Cole and Kacie Adkison’s daughter, Blair Collins McBee, and Jesse and Alli McBee’s daughter, Summer Leigh McBee.
