Suspect in Viral Dognapping Arrested; French Bulldog Still Missing – Crime Online

Los Angeles police have arrested a suspect in a dognapping that left the French bulldog’s owner clinging to the hood of the getaway car.

Sadie Slater, 21, was arrested in Inglewood and booked on a charge of robbery, KABC reported. She’s being held on a $70,000 bond.

Ali Zacharias was having lunch on January 18 at a Whole Foods in downtown Los Angeles, as CrimeOnline reported. Onyx, her French bulldog, was underneath her chair when a woman approached and grabbed the dog’s leash.

Zacharias gave chase until the woman jumped in a car, when she stepped in front of their vehicle. But the driver rammed into her, leaving her clinging to the hood for several blocks, until the car made a sharp turn and sent her flying to the ground.

Police later released a photo of a woman suspect, but it’s not clear if this was Slater. Another suspect has been described as a man in his 20s. Zacharias said there were a total of four people, including the dognapper, in the white Kia Forte.

KABC said it wasn’t clear if the dog had been found, but TMZ reported police were trying to get the dog’s location from the arrested suspect.

French bulldogs are popular targets for dog thieves. Pop star Lady Gaga’s two French bulldogs were stolen, and her dog walker shot and critically injured, in 2021. Her dogs were eventually returned.
