An exploding teddy bear in California led police to a house of guns, drugs and explosives — and, ultimately, an arrest.
The San Bernardino Police Department posted video to its social media channels on Tuesday depicting what they say is a teddy bear explosion in a parking lot.
“Recently, Patrol Officers responded to a 911 call after a business owner was notified by witnesses that a possible explosive device inside a large Teddy Bear detonated at the front of the business,” the SBPD’s Instagram post said.
The video shows someone getting out of a parked SUV and placing the cuddly toy on the ground a few parking spots away. Seconds after the person gets back into the car, smoke starts to emanate from the teddy bear. Seconds later, a whistling sound is heard shortly before the cuddly ursine toy is violently torn apart by an explosion.
The SUV then pulls out of the parking lot.
Law enforcement officials say they tracked down the person behind the explosion.
“Through further investigation, Detectives reviewed surveillance footage of the incident and developed leads, which led to a search warrant,” the Instagram post says. Investigators found at the home a “ghost gun,” more than 200 rounds of ammunition, over a kilo of methamphetamine, “illegal aerial fireworks,” a ballistic vest, U.S. currently, and metal pipes and saws “consistent with explosive devices.”
The date of the parking lot explosion was not provided and the suspect’s identity has not been released. The SBPD did not immediately respond to Law&Crime’s request for additional information.
