Teen Stabbed Dead While Walking to Work Was Mother of 6-month-old Baby – Crime Online

A Texas girl found stabbed dead in Houston last week was the mother of a 6-month-old baby, her mother says.

Kayla Stevenson, 17, was attacked at around 11 a.m. Saturday while walking to work near the Galleria area, on W Alabama Street, near McCue Road. The suspect, who stole her purse, stabbed her multiple times before fleeing on a blue “cruiser style” bicycle.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Houston Assistant Police Chief Wyatt Martin said an off-duty sergeant working security in the area was flagged down just after 11 a.m. and told about two women fighting. The suspect was later identified as an Asian female, but, so far, no arrests have been made.

“They took someone very important to me,” Kayla’s mother, Kylie, said, according to KHOU. “She was a fun-loving, free spirit, ya know. She was goofy, she always made me laugh, she was really happy.”

“It was the stupidest thing ever. Not only did they kill her to take her purse, they took her phone they tried to use her bank card. You continued to violate her after she had died.”

The suspect appeared to be between the ages of 25 to 35 and was wearing black clothing when the attack occurred. According to police, the suspect took a pink Juicy Couture purse with hearts and a rhinestone JC logo from Stevenson.

“We have patrols in the area already due to the holidays and we will continue to do so,” Martin said. “We will have units in the area canvassing trying to find any reference to that suspect, we’re checking cameras in the area.”

Martin added that people should leave expensive items at home while walking, especially during the holiday season. Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with expenses.

Anyone with information about the cage should contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600. For anonymous tips, contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
