OXNARD, Calif. (TCN) — Two teens have been charged in connection with the death of a man sleeping outside a church.
According to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, on June 5, a church volunteer found Davy Pichel outside St. Anthony’s Catholic Church partially clothed with severe injuries to his head and face. Paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced him deceased.
Authorities obtained church security footage and allege two teens, ages 14 and 15, went up to Pichel on the night of June 4 while he was sitting near the side door next to his wheelchair. The juveniles allegedly “beat and stomped the victim” and then returned to “take turns to stomp him again.”
The teens allegedly walked away a second time and returned again to “repeatedly stomp” Pichel. According to prosecutors, the suspects then removed some of Pichel’s clothing and fled the scene.
The district attorney’s office did not disclose the teens’ names but said they have been charged with murder and were detained at a juvenile facility. Their arraignments are set for June 24.
