HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (TCN) — A mother stands accused of hitting her child with a car after she missed the bus.
According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, on the morning of Aug. 19, a school resource deputy responded to the Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy to a report of a student who had allegedly been hit by her mother’s car in the parking lot. The student reportedly went into the principal’s office “visibly upset” and claimed her mother, Misty Sue Coleman, “became angry after the child missed the school bus.”
Allegedly, the student started to exit the car, and her mother accelerated before she was fully out and hit the victim’s ankle and drove away. Authorities reportedly reviewed school surveillance, corroborating the victim’s statement.
Upon further investigation, Coleman was charged with aggravated child abuse or neglect.
