A 12-year-old Texas boy came home from school on Friday to an empty apartment, with his family gone.
According to KWKT, Copperas Cove police were called to a neighbor’s home, where the boy had gone after finding his mother, Erica Renee Sanders, and her boyfriend, Keven Dwayne Adams, gone.
He told the officer that Sanders and Adams had said they would be moving at some point, and the neighbor told police they frequently kicked the boy out.
Officers contacted the couple by phone and were told that his uncle was supposed to have picked him up, but when they contacted the uncle, he said he knew nothing of any such plans.
While speaking with Adams, police say he “complained at length” about his girlfriend’s young son.
Police contacted child protective services, who in turn again contacted the couple, but they refused to say where they were. Police finally located them nearly six hours later and arrested them on charges of abandoning or endangering a child without intent to return.
