A Texas woman is behind bars after police found her father’s decomposing body inside a Bellmead home, where he reportedly lived with his adult daughter.
The body of 66-year-old Jerry Freeman was found in a mobile home in Bellmead in the 4000 block of E. Harris earlier this week, KWTX reported.
According to neighbors, police discovered Freeman’s body Wednesday, during a wellness check by health care workers, who subsequently called the police. Bellmead police arrived at the scene a little before 3:00 p.m.
The mobile home park owner told KWTX that Freeman’s daughter, Crystal Martin, 44, had lived in the home with Freeman since 2009. Martin continued to do so as her father lay dead inside the home and allegedly made no attempt to alert law enforcement.
A police officer stated in the arrest warrant that, “I could observe bloating and lividity with the corpse.” It also mentioned that the filth the bloated man was found in was “from multiple dogs in the house.”
Jail records show that Martin was arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse and resisting arrest. She is being held on a $5,000 bond at the McLennan County Jail.
Newsbreak reported that the City of Bellmead’s Chief of Police, Shawn Myatt, stated that he does not suspect Freeman’s death was foul play.
