Texas Man Arrested for Causing Crash That Forced Pregnant Woman’s Miscarriage – Crime Online

A speeding and drinking Texas man ran a red light earlier this month, causing a four-car pileup that flipped one car into a ditch, sending its pregnant driver into early labor.

The woman was rushed to a hospital for surgery, but she miscarried, KENS reports.

Alexander Mendoza, 30, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the February 19 crash. Deputies said in a probable cause statement that he was slurring his words and smelled of alcohol. They found an open beer bottle — with alcohol still inside — on the floorboard of his vehicle.

Deputies said he was traveling 75 miles per hour in a 40 miles per hour zone.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said Mendoza’s current charge is based on the woman’s injuries but said further charges may be filed when toxicology results are returned.

“Now we are still waiting on the results of the Intoxilyzer,” Salazar said. “And once we obtain these results, if indeed it does show that he was intoxicated to that level, and that directly led to the death of the child, he may additionally face charges of intoxication manslaughter in connection with the baby as well.”

Mendoza was arrested Tuesday at a nearby military base, where he is a civilian employee. ‘

Law&Crime said he was being held on a $125,000 bond and is due in court again on May 5.
