A Texas man has been arrested after a 6-week-old baby he was caring for was admitted to a hospital with multiple injuries.
Court documents say doctors found the baby girl with fractures to her ribs and leg bones and a torn frenulum — a connecting tissue — and was underweight with blood in her vomit and feces, KTXS reported.
The hospital called police because the injuries — 17 rib fractures in various stages of healing and bruising — were consistent with abuse.
Rodolfo Rosette told police that he “gripped” the girl too tightly when he was frustrated. He also said he forcefully strapped the infant into a car seat and she “squealed.”
Rosette also told detectives he forced a bottle to stay in the baby’s mouth, which doctors believe may have torn the frenulum.
Doctors said the leg fractures appeared to have been caused by a jerking motion. Rosette told police he pulled the baby’s legs to help her have a bowel movement, saying the 6-week-old “didn’t want” to extend her legs so pulled them too hard.
Three weeks after the girl was taken from Rosette’s care she returned to doctors for a follow up appoint and had no new injuries and was gaining weight.
Documents did not explain Rosette’s relationship to the victim.
According to Law&Crime, Rosette was arrested on Monday and charged with injury to a child. He is being held on a $100,000 bond, KTAB reported.
