AUSTIN, Texas (TCN) — A 24-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder after his 63-year-old roommate was found dead in a cardboard box behind a bus stop.
At 5:22 p.m. on Nov. 13, the Austin Police Department responded to a call about a deceased man behind a bus stop, they said in a news release. When officers arrived, they discovered the body of Robert Wentworth inside a large cardboard box. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Austin American-Statesman, the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and neck, and the death was ruled a homicide. The lack of blood evidence at the scene led investigators to believe that the body had been moved, according to the outlet.
Investigators learned Wentworth had lived with a roommate, Aidan Hunt, a few hundred yards from where his body was discovered. Hunt reportedly admitted to investigators that he and Wentworth had had physical altercations, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
After executing a search warrant at the home, investigators reportedly found evidence connected to the death.
CBS Austin reports that the evidence included large amounts of blood, as well as cardboard boxes with identifying lot numbers that matched the box in which Wentworth was found.
DNA evidence linked Hunt to the scene, the Austin American-Statesman reports. Hunt was arrested on Nov. 16 and charged with first-degree murder.
CBS Austin reports he is in custody on a $100,000 bond.
