A Texas man tracked his girlfriend to a Dallas Walmart on Wednesday and shot her and a bystander before killing himself.
WFAA reported that both victims were not critically hurt, but an off-duty officer found the shooter in his car, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident took place just before 3:30 p.m. when the store and parking lot were full.
“I was parked right next to him,” witness Tevar Watson said.
Watson said he “locked eyes” with the man, who has not been named, before he got out of his car and opened fire.
“I’m looking in the rearview and I could see her face,” Watson said. “She was, I don’t know what word to use, but she was frantic. And she started running.”
Some Walmart employees ran to help her, and he retrieved her shopping car because her cell phone was in it and she wanted to call her family.
He said the gunman ran back to his car, and he heard one final gunshot.
Witness Sirrano Keith Baldeo told KDFW that he saw the shooter chasing a woman through the parking lot and firing.
“She was running that way, and he was chasing her,” Baldeo said. “He cornered her between two cars and then just started shooting, shooting, shooting, shooting.”
KDFW said that both victims were in stable condition after the shooting.
