Texas Mom Pleads Guilty in Connection With Toddler Daughter’s Death – Crime Online

A Texas mom pleaded guilty on Monday to charges in connection with the death of her 2-year-old daughter more than seven years ago.

Sarah Elizabeth Newsom pleaded to a charge of injury to a child by failure to protect in the death of Scarlette Oliva Newsom in October 2018, KFDX reported. She was sentenced to 22 years in prison and had initially been charged with injury to a child cuasing serious bodily injury.

Her boyfriend at the time, Joshua Fulbright, was convicted earlier this year on a charge of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Fulbright reportedly admitted to striking Scarlette on the head. Newsom was in the room when it happened.

The little girl was taken to a hospital the next day after she began having seizures and vomiting. Newsom reportedly hit the girl several times trying to stop the seizures.

KFDX said that Newsom waived her right to appeal as part of her plea deal. Fulbright, who was convicted at trial, has appealed his conviction.
