Brentford’s Thomas Frank distances himself from the Tottenham job, while Steve Cooper refuses to comment as pressure mounts on Antonio Conte after Spurs’ dismal Champions League exit
Premier League bosses Thomas Frank and Steve Cooper have both played down their chances of taking the Tottenham job, as pressure continues to mount on Antonio Conte.
Spurs crashed out of the Champions League on Wednesday after failing to overturn a one goal deficit from the first leg against AC Milan. They were also knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship side Sheffield United a week earlier.
It means that Conte, whose contract will be up at the end of the season, looks unlikely to stay at the North London club for much longer.
Despite speculation over the Italian’s potential replacement, Brentford boss Frank distanced himself from the role.
‘First, they have a manager which is a manager I have studied for years and I admire massively,’ he said.Â

The result has increased the pressure on Spurs boss Antonio Conte, who will be out of contract this summer
Both Steve Cooper and Thomas Frank have distanced themselves from the role
‘I think he has achieved some fantastic results so I hope he will do well and I hope Spurs do well. Secondly, I am very, very happy here at Brentford.’
The German manager has become one of the highest-rated in England after taking the Bees from the Championship to the brink of European football.
Steve Cooper, who also masterminded an incredible promotion campaign as he took over a Nottingham Forest side that was bottom of the second tier and took them into the Premier League via the play-offs, refused to comment on speculation about Tottenham’s next manager.
He spoke of his ‘huge respect’ for Conte before switching his focus to Forest’s game against Spurs this weekend.
The game will be a massive one for Tottenham, as they look to get back to winning ways after three straight losses across all competitions.
While the teams below them do have games in hand, Conte’s men are currently in the Champions League places and could salvage something from what has been a season to forget so far.
