He has a neck tattoo that says “All gas no brakes” but police say he apparently is not so good behind the wheel.
Deputies in Polk County, Florida, responded to a neighborhood around 3:30 a.m. Monday for a report of a man and woman trying to break into vehicles. A deputy spotted the suspect’s car, a white 2006 Cadillac CTS, and tried to pull it over but the driver wouldn’t stop. The driver, later identified as Timothy Allen Hogue, 37, then sped past another deputy, but realized he missed the lone exit for the neighborhood.
The deputy had blocked off part of the street, and when Hogue tried to drive around the cruiser, he slammed into a parked vehicle, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said. Hogue was going upwards of 80 mph, according to a probable cause arrest affidavit reviewed by Law&Crime. Deputies took both Hogue and his accomplice, identified as 31-year-old Rebecca Kozub, into custody. Hogue suffered several cuts to his head and face while Kozub suffered a broken leg.
The crash is caught on video.
The affidavit says the suspects broke into at least four vehicles, stealing two purses and a pair of sunglasses. Detectives recovered the stolen items in the suspect’s car, along with .22 grams of methamphetamine and 2.55 grams of marijuana. Hogue admitted to the burglaries and said it was Kozub’s idea, deputies said. He also admitted to trying to break into two other vehicles, including one that set off a car alarm. The homeowner saw what was happening and called 911.
Hogue is facing charges of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance with the enhancement of crossing county lines, felony petit theft, fleeing to elude, conspiracy to commit burglary and drug possession charges. Charges against Kozub are pending. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment where Kozub remains. Hogue is now at the Polk County Jail.
“Fleeing from a law enforcement traffic stop demonstrates very poor decision making, but to do it in a small, residential neighborhood at a high rate of speed is a terrible idea, and dangerous,” Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement. “It’s amazing and fortunate that nobody innocent was hurt or killed. They could have very easily crashed into a house. It should not come as a surprise that the driver has a tattoo on his neck that says, ‘All gas, no brakes.””
