Vanderpump Rules alums Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz had the most must-see interaction after Katie spoke about their former relationship. In fact, it was pretty hilarious.
Katie took to an episode of her podcast, co-hosted with Dayna Kathan, on Sept. 17, where they were talking about marriage proposals of all kinds — from fake, staged marriage proposals, to failed marriage proposals. “Do you know anyone who’s gotten married to someone they didn’t say yes to and just gone through with it?” Dayna asked Katie.
“No, but I’m inclined to say that Tom Schwartz maybe didn’t want to propose to me,” she replied. “I’m kidding! Just kidding. Listen, that was a joke, folks.”
Tom had something to say about this after seeing a clip from the podcast on Instagram that same day. “What the helly, I just opened this app,” he wrote in the comments of the post.
“Tom, what are you doing here?” they replied to him.
How did Tom Schwartz propose to Katie Maloney?
Tom asked Katie to marry him during VPR Season 4, when he hired a set of actors to stage a faux proposal in front of Katie. He then took the ring box from one of the actors in the midst of the fake proposal, got down on one knee, and asked Katie to marry him.
Katie, who is currently in a relationship with Nick Martin, spoke with The Daily Dish in January 2016, where she revealed that she had no idea that the proposal was coming. This was especially since Tom gave Katie a promise ring on a chain during VPR Season 3, which resulted in her giving him an ultimatum, challenging him to propose within six months, or break up with her for good.

“It’s funny because, obviously, I didn’t know it was coming, and I was in an awful mood [and] was kind of snapping at him,” she said. “And he was not paying attention to me.”

Although Katie and Tom divorced in October 2022, they still remain close to this day. Katie appeared on Tom’s podcast on April 22, where they caught up and talked about their relationship. During their conversation, Tom revealed that he feels “well-equipped” for being in a relationship again.

“I’m such a better listener,” he shared. “And when someone is having a bad moment, it doesn’t trigger my fight or flight anymore. I let people vent, I listen. I don’t try to give them a logical answer…You whipped my ass into shape.”
