A Utah man was arrested early Monday morning for the kidnapping and rape of a 13-year-old girl.
According to KSL, a Taylorsville police officer pulled over Derek James Jones, 31, at about 2:30 a.m., noting he appeared to be “makin evasive maneuvers” to avoid the officer, an arrest affidavit said.
When they stopped Jones, they found the teen girl under several blankets in the backset of his vehicle.
“I spoke with the female juvenile victim, who I located inside a white SUV covered in blankets,” the officer wrote in the affidavit. “She stated she was scared and lost and she was just kidnapped. The juvenile appeared to be very frantic and emotional. It was further discovered the female was taken from her residence without the juvenile’s legal guardian’s consent.”
The girl told the officer that Jones touched her inappropriately and said “he would kill her if she said anything.”
Police said it was possible Jones met the girl via social media.
