Video Cameras Installed on Trail Where Mother-of-5 Was Found Murdered – Crime Online

On Monday, Maryland officials started installing video cameras on a trail where a woman was found murdered in August.

No arrests have been made in the slaying of Rachel Morin, 37, whose body was found in a drainage ditch on the Ma and Pa trail on August 6, a day after her boyfriend reported her missing. Hartford County Executive Bob Cassilly told WMAR that cameras recently installed on the trail will quickly detect suspicious activity.

According to WMAR, the cameras will cover about two miles of the trail. Law enforcement and first responders will reportedly have access to data obtained from this camera system.

DNA from Morin’s crime scene linked her suspected killer to an unsolved home invasion and assault of a young girl which occurred in Los Angeles, California, in March. The suspect in those crimes remains unidentified even after police publicized surveillance stills of him home leaving a Los Angeles home in March.

According to The Baltimore Sun, the camera system on the Ma and Pa trail is expected to go live in February. Hartford County officials collaborated with various companies — including ARK Systems and Motorola — to install the camera system, which includes multi-sensor camera units at 26 spots on the trail.

However, Harford County police spokesperson Cristie Hopkins revealed to The Baltimore Sun that the police department had almost no involvement in implementing the camera system on the Ma & Pa trail.

“The Sheriff’s Office has successfully used camera systems in other areas of the county and would have been happy to share our knowledge with County officials to ensure this project provides the best possible services to our citizens. Unfortunately, other than the initial recommendation to the County for the placement of cameras on the trail, we have had no additional follow-up on the issue,” Hopkins said.

A $30,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the capture of Morin’s killer.
