What Happened to the Murdaugh Family Dog? – Crime Online

Since Alex Murdaugh was convicted on Thursday of murdering his wife and son, questions have arisen about the status of a key figure in the case: Bubba, the family’s yellow Labrador retriever.

Namely, who is caring for the family’s beloved canine?

The answer appears to be Blanca Turrubiate-Simpson, a former housekeeper who worked for the Murdaugh family, according to the BBC and WLOS-TV, which reports that Bubba now lives with Turrubiate-Simpson and her husband.

The television station’s story does not explain how or why Turrubiate-Simpson came to be Bubba’s caretaker, or why he is not with Murdaugh’s surviving son, Buster.

Buster and his girlfriend appear to already have two dogs and were seen walking them on Saturday in Hilton Head, South Carolina, Fox News reports.

A judge sentenced Murdaugh on Friday to life in prison without parole following the convictions. Jurors unanimously found that the disgraced South Carolina attorney murdered 22-year-old Paul and 52-year-old Maggie in June 2021 at the family’s hunting lodge in Moselle.

Bubba has been credited with helping prosecutors deliver the conviction. Murdaugh had denied being at the hunting lodge, but in a Snapchat video recorded by Paul, Murdaugh’s voice could clearly be heard speaking to the dog.

“Come here, Bubba!” Murdaugh can be heard saying in the video. “Come here, Bubba!”

When confronted with the video evidence, Murdaugh admitted to being at the hunting lodge before his wife and son were slain.

“Bubba solved the case,” an unnamed source told the New York Post. “Labs are very loyal. They love their owners and Maggie was Bubba’s master.”
