Dr. Stephen Hammond kicked off his Southern Charm Season 11 debut on the right foot with Patricia Altschul — before eventually committing a classic gentleman’s dinner faux pas, like so many attendees before him.
Unlike Shep Rose and Whitner Slagsvol, Dr. Stephen arrived at the intimate event with a hostess gift of high-end champagne, making a great first impression on Miss Patricia (aka his friend Whitney Sudler-Smith’s mom) during Episode 6.
While Shep joked that Stephen was an “upstager,” the matriarch, on the other hand, remarked that she’d “heard so many wonderful things about him” before complimenting his “fabulous” formal attire and welcoming him into her and Whitney’s Charleston home.
A bit later, Patricia debriefed Stephen and his fellow first-timer, Whitner, on how these guys’ dinners tend to go.

“Usually something disastrous happens,” Miss Pat informed them. “There’s been chairs being broken; red wine being spilled on the white sofa. And what I’m hoping for is having all you elegant gentlemen, it’ll all be civilized.”
Just when the dinner seemed to be wrapping up without a hitch, Dr. Stephen appeared to break an antique chair when he stood to toast his fellow attendees, who also included Craig Conover and Austen Kroll.
Naturally, the men started chanting, “One of us!” while Austen even hoisted the “flimsy” chair in the air. Miss Pat, meanwhile, lamented in a confessional, “I can’t, I just can’t.”
Stephen, for his part, declared, “Luckily, I’m one of the few [who] can afford it.”
Shep Rose reveals Dr. Stephen’s “fascinating” background
In a confessional, Shep shared details on what he referred to as Dr. Stephen’s “fascinating” background, while cautioning viewers of Southern Charm‘s Jan. 7 episode that he was “probably gonna get it a little wrong.”
“His father was a British man who went to Nigeria to be the physician for the ruling party of the time,” Shep explained. “And he ended up marrying and having children with the daughter of one of the ruling-class people down there.”
After the couple welcomed Stephen, they moved their family to London.
“And now Stephen’s a doctor as well, like his dad,” Shep added. “It’s just really cool.”
What Dr. Stephen Hammond does for work
As for Dr. Stephen’s medical specialty, he is a board-certified dermatopathologist, a combination of dermatology and pathology, in South Carolina, according to his professional bio.
He received his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland, before completing his residency training at the Boston University Medical Center, where he served as chief resident in both anatomical and clinical pathology.
After completing his fellowship at the Ackerman Academy of Dermatopathology in New York City, Dr. Stephen also served as the medical director and head of dermatopathology at a regional diagnostic laboratory in South Carolina.

Details on Dr. Stephen Hammond’s family life
According to his Instagram, Dr. Stephen is married to Alicia Hammond, who previously owned and operated a Charleston clothing boutique called Harper & Hartford, which closed its doors after three years in February 2024.
Dr. Stephen and Alicia are also parents to a daughter named Olive, who turned 10 in October 2025.
The South Carolina-based physician’s social media is primarily devoted to documented special moments with his wife, all of his daughter’s milestones, as well as their family vacations.
