Why Jesse McBee Considered Calling Off Alli Ventresca Wedding

Jesse McBee decided he was finally ready to pop the question to Alli Ventresca during Season 1 of The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys. Season 2 has documented the couple’s preparation for their upcoming wedding, but the engagement stage hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows for the high school sweethearts.

In Season 2, Episode 4, Jesse explained why ongoing arguments over where he and Alli should settle down led him to consider calling off their wedding. 

Jesse talked to his mom, Kristi McBee, about the relationship challenges, explaining that Alli is too busy to come see him in the country, but he’s also too busy with the farm to see her in the city.

“I know,” Kristi responded. “But that’s not how married people live. I just don’t want you guys to get used to living apart. Because, as you can see, it does not work out.”

Jesse agreed and opened up about the situation in a confessional. “As much as I hate to say this, if we’re not gonna be able to live together, I don’t see how we don’t at least postpone the wedding if not cancel it overall,” he admitted.

This is not the first time the couple’s physical distance has caused relationship problems. In Season 2, Episode 3, Alli and Jesse had a rough conversation about their living situation. During the talk, Jesse suggested they should live in their country house, but his fiancé disagreed. Alli reminded him that her family, friends, and nursing job are all in the city, making it difficult for her to leave.

“So we get married, we go on our honeymoon and have a great time for a week and then come back and, what, split off again?” Jesse responded.

Alli agreed that living apart is not a long-term solution. Later in the conversation, Jesse said that he wouldn’t “understand the point” of them being married if they didn’t live together, confirming that he wanted Alli to live in the country with him.

“And if I did not want to do that?” Alli asked. “Is that gonna be, like, a dealbreaker for you?” To that, Jesse responded, “I would say, yeah.”

He elaborated on his feelings in a confessional: “I don’t feel comfortable getting married if we’re not gonna be able to live together,” Jesse said.

Back in Episode 4, Jesse and Alli also got into an argument over the phone in front of Kristi, revealing some cracks in their relationship. The tiff began when Kristi called the soon-to-be bride while helping Jesse select his outfit for the ceremony. The mom-of-four asked Alli if she wanted Jesse in a bolo tie or a regular tie.

Alli said he could pick between the two, but Jesse said he’d prefer a bolo tie. 

“Alli definitely has a fancier vision for this wedding than I probably would have,” Jesse said in a confessional. “I’ve been able to sneak in a few things. We get to wear cowboy hats, thank God.”

Alli conceded, saying Jesse could wear what he wanted, and then told Kristi the couple had gotten into an argument about Jesse’s suit color a few days prior.

“I’ll tell you what happened is I liked the gray suit, [Alli] liked the beige suit,” Jesse explained. “But then, all of a sudden, out of nowhere, she’s like, ‘Actually I like the gray suit more.’ Didn’t say I was right or anything just decided that she was the one who liked the gray suit first.”

Alli, clearly annoyed, didn’t think Jesse recounted the story correctly. “You know better than that,” she said.

Kristi opened up about Jesse and Alli’s argument in a confessional during the episode. She attributed their squabble to the fact that the couple basically lives in separate home. 

“Lately, Alli and Jesse snap on each other a little bit more,” Kristi said in an episode interview. “From experience, married couples need to sleep in the same bed, and they need to be able to share each other’s day. You can’t get used to not being together.”
