A Wisconsin man on the run for months after the death of his 12-year-old son from starvation has been arrested.
Romuan Moye was arrested in Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon, WDJT reported.
Moye made his first appearance in court on Monday and is charged with multiple counts, including reckless homicide, chronic neglect of a child causing death, and failure to report the death of of a child.
Jacarie Robinson’s malnourished and decomposing body was found in his Milwaukee home on October 10, 2023, as CrimeOnline reported. Investigators said the boy was so malnourished that the medical examiner was unable to positively identify him. The ME said the boy had been dead for at least a week when he was found, but he had not been seen since Labor Day.
He weighed 54 pounds at the time of his death and had several fractures to his arms, legs, and ribs.
According to a criminal complaint, Moye had been keeping Robinson away from other family members for months. Moye’s 21-year-old son found the child’s body after going to the house when his father stopped answering texts and calls. Robinson’s body was on the living room floor beneath a blanket.
Police told WDJT that an “outside source” led them to Moye.
“What we thought was maybe a really small investigative lead for us, so something that we thought was maybe really small, ended up pointing us in the right direction,” said Thomas Kotnik with the Special Investigation Fugitive Apprehension Division.
“There’s a lot of people that had a lot of questions over the last couple of months about what we were doing, how come he hasn’t been found yet; so, I think this is a step in the right direction, makes everyone feel a bit better,” said Kotnik.
Moye faces up to 82 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
