A Wisconsin mother is dead after police say that her daughter bludgeoned her in her own backyard earlier this week.

On October 12, police found Carrie Zettel, 64, was found dead in her backyard near South 23rd Street and West Ramsey Avenue in Milwaukee, WISN reported.

According to court records, a neighbor told Milwaukee police Sunday afternoon that she witnessed the deceased woman’s daughter, Lauren Spors, 29, strike Zettel’s head with a rock. Responding officers found the defendant inside the home with blood on her.

A family friend, Susan Henderson-Hoffmann, said,It happened in the backyard, and she beat her mother to death with a rock.”

Henderson-Hoffmann reportedly said she wasn’t surprised.

I cannot believe Carrie is gone, but you want to know something? I’m not surprised.”

Law enforcement found the victim covered in blood.” They subsequently arrested Spors, according to the warrant, and charged her with first-degree intentional homicide.

This is not the first time Spors has been accused of violence against her family, according to the Milwaukee Sentinel Journal.

After Zettel expressed her concerns about Spors, who reportedly struggled with mental health issues, she secured a restraining order against her daughter in 2018.

According to court documents, Spors was then charged four times with violating that order, but later found incompetent on each occasion. The case was dismissed.

After the fourth incident, in which she hadthrown a rock through one of the double pane windowsat Zettel’s home, she was committed to the county mental health facility for an unknown length of time.

CBS 58 reported that Zettel’s close friend, Loretta Moyer, stated that Zettel told her that she believed Spors had killed her father, Jeffrey Spors, although no one has been criminally charged.

Police found Jeffrey Spors dead about a mile from the family’s home at Copernicus Park in January 2018. His death occurred approximately three days after his daughter, according to the investigation report obtained by CBS 58, “hit the decedent over the head with two glass bottles.”

His death was labeled an accidental overdose, as he was “known to over medicate on his pain prescriptions.”

“The girl should have been stopped years ago, and I don’t understand why. And that angers me,Henderson-Hoffmann said.

On Tuesday, a judge set Spors cash bond at $100,000, according to case records.

Spors’ next court date is scheduled for November 21, when a doctor’s evaluation report is expected to be revealed.
