A 46-year-old woman was arrested at a Florida airportafter she allegedly hit a child who called her “fat” and repeatedly said she “could not fit in her seat” on the airplane.
On Monday, police arrested Kristy L. Crampton, charging her with child cruelty by abuse without great bodily harm.
A probable cause affidavit obtained by WFLY revealed that the incident occurred on a flight from Orlando-Sanford International Airport to Maryland. Before takeoff, Crampton and several others were removed from the plane following the incident.
The victim told police that he was angry about his phone being taken, and said he called Crampton “fat” and pushed her arm off of the armrest because she had been taking up too much space.
“That’s when she smacked him in the face,” the affidavit read.
Two witnesses on the flight also provided statements to police. The first witness said that they saw Crampton “hitting [the victim] with her fist and then a water bottle.”
Crampton then allegedly slammed the child’s head into a plane window.
“The woman was not correcting the child; she was abusing him,” a witness said.
Police detained Crampton at the gate, where she said the child was being rude to her and “disrespectful.”
On Tuesday, Crampton appeared in Seminole County, where she was released on a $10,000 bond. The judge ordered her to not contact the victim.
The relationship between the defendant and child is unclear.
