Police on New York’s Long Island are investigating after a woman was found dead in her home with facial burns.
A medical examiner said that Aleena Asif died from asphyxiation by an unknown chemical substance and ruled her death a criminal homicide, Nassau County Police said.
Asif was 46. Her body was found last Friday afternoon during a welfare check, but the death was not reported until Thursday.
Newsday reported that the investigation was ongoing and that the medical examiner was conducting further tests.
No further information was released.
