A woman shot and killed a 43-year-old man in November in a Houston parking lot, then shot her father “unprovoked” nearly two months later with the same weapon, court records say.
On Jan. 3, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office arrested 23-year-old Jaysie Parker-Jones on an aggravated assault charge after she allegedly shot her father. Court records reviewed by Law&Crime say Parker-Jones was sitting in her father’s vehicle when she shot him “unprovoked” multiple times in the neck and mouth. Her father survived. The shooting also happened in front of her younger brother, resulting in a discharging a firearm charge.
Parker-Jones allegedly admitted to the shooting.
“The defendant is a clear danger to the complainant and the community,” prosecutors wrote in a motion for sufficient bail.
When detectives tested the ballistics on the gun in the shooting of her father, they matched it to a November murder, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. Deputies responded around 7:20 a.m. on Nov. 10 to the 14200 Woodham Dr at E Airtex Drive. Paramedics arrived to find 43-year-old Kenneth Johnson dead from multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies found Johnson’s Honda Civic abandoned a short distance away.
Parker-Jones also admitted to shooting Johnson, deputies said, although they have not released a motive for the murder. Johnson’s family members told ABC affiliate KTRK that they did not know Parker-Jones nor could they think of a reason as to why she would allegedly kill their loved one. Johnson’s brothers said he loved photography and his dogs.
Parker-Jones is now facing a murder charge as well and is at the Harris County Jail on a $350,000 bond. Her next court date is scheduled for March 12.
