A 37-year-old woman in New York will spend several years behind bars for nearly killing her own father, stabbing him multiple times in the chest during an argument over a backed-up toilet inside their family home. A judge in Orange County last week ordered Kimberly Mann to serve seven years in a state correctional facility for the horrific attack on her father last year, authorities announced.
Following her release from prison, Mann will be required to complete an additional five years of supervised release.
Mann pleaded guilty as part of a plea agreement to one count of first-degree assault, admitting she “intentionally caused serious physical injury” to her father by “means of a dangerous instrument.”
According to a news release from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Mann got into an argument with her mother on Aug. 14, 2024, “over a clogged toilet” inside the family’s home in Otisville, New York, which is about a 75-mile drive northwest from New York City.

“When Mann’s father tried to step between Mann and her mother, Mann drew a knife she had hidden in her shirt and repeatedly stabbed her father in the chest,” prosecutors wrote. “As a result, the victim sustained serious and nearly fatal injuries, including collapsed lungs and severe blood loss.”
Officers with the Mount Hope Police Department responded to the address, where they found Mann “sitting outside smoking a cigarette.” She told the officers that “her father was probably dying inside.”
Emergency medical personnel located the victim inside and rendered lifesaving aid as he was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Fortunately, he survived his numerous wounds.
In a statement, Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler said the defendant’s “horrifying” actions amounted to a “nightmare.”
“Domestic violence is insidious and, as seen in this case, can be terrifyingly violent,” he said. “Cases such as this one are incredibly challenging, and while the defendant’s acceptance of responsibility saved the family from the trauma of recounting the incident at trial, the significant prison sentence imposed is necessary to underscore the seriousness of the defendant’s actions.”
Hoovler also thanked the Town of Mount Hope Police Department and the New York State Police for their efforts in the investigation and proceedings that led to Mann’s conviction.
Jail records showed that Mann remained in custody at the Orange County Jail as of Monday afternoon, the Times Union reported.
