The Brighton man fired in a speculative low effort through a crowd of players, hoping for a lucky deflection or to see it nestle into the bottom corner. Instead, it took a wicked deflection to wrong-foot the goalkeeper Andries Noppert and roll into the net to send the Ecuador supporters into pandemonium.
Their celebrations were cut short, however, when the assistant referee raised the offside flag against Jackson Porozo, who was standing in an offside position when Estupinan struck the ball. VAR officials checked the incident and the on-field decision from the man in the middle, Mustapha Ghorbal, stood as Ecuador was left in despair.
And fans took to social media to register their confusion with a decision that went against Ecuador, given that Porozo did not actually touch the ball or supposedly interfere with play.

@jballew_horns26 agreed and said: “I think Ecuador got hosed on that call. I get the interference rule in an offside position, but he did nothing that influenced what the keeper could or could not do.”

Ecuador would later feel some joy, and deservedly, so after Enner Valencia stabbed home from close range to make it 1-1, leaving Group A wide open with one game to go.
