BATON ROUGE, La. (TCN) —Â A man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the alleged fatal beating of his 92-year-old father.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, officers responded to a residence on Oct. 12 to conduct a welfare check for an elderly man, Larry Salisbury. When they arrived, they saw him through an unsecured door and noted that he was obviously deceased. Investigators said he died of blunt force trauma, WAFB reports.
Police identified the victim’s son, Bruce Salisbury, as a suspect. According to WAFB, police had been called twice to the home on Oct. 11 because Larry Salisbury and Bruce Salisbury were reportedly arguing over car keys.Â
According to court records obtained by WAFB, Larry Salisbury had filed a protective order against his son that was not set to expire until July 31, 2027. On July 24, Bruce Salisbury was charged with felony domestic abuse battery against Larry Salisbury, who reportedly suffered two black eyes and had blood on his ear following the attack.Â
Bruce Salisbury pleaded guilty on Sept. 17 and was sentenced to six months in prison with credit for time served, per WAFB. The remaining time was suspended by the court and he was ordered to go on unsupervised probation for a year.
WAFB reports the father and son lived together.
The day after Larry Salisbury’s body was found, police apprehended Bruce Salisbury during a traffic stop following a pursuit. WAFB reports Bruce Salisbury reportedly flipped his car during the chase. He was taken into custody and arrested and charged with first-degree murder, according to police.
