The McBee family has grown to include Steven McBee Jr.’s on-and-off-again girlfriend Calah Jackson at times, but that doesn’t mean Calah doesn’t miss her own family in Texas.
After revealing earlier on The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys Season 2 that her sister, Mallory, died in May 2024, Calah checked in with her mother on a video call during Episode 9 (which aired Aug. 25).
“My mom legally adopted Harlow, my sister’s daughter,” Calah explained in a confessional interview before calling her mother. “Harlow is the cutest little three-year-old ever. It just makes you so sad for her. She doesn’t fully understand that her mom is gone forever.”
Calah’s mom, Hope, then shared an update on Harlow. “It’s kind of hard, but I think she’s adjusting pretty well,” she told Calah. “She asks about mom sometimes and we talk about that she’s in heaven. She’ll get upset and kind of teary-eyed. She wants her back. We all want her back. We all miss her.”
Calah, for her part, was happy to hear that Mallory’s memory continues to be honored. “I love that she’ll bring her up randomly too. I mean, it makes me sad, but it’s good,” she told her mom.

During the same conversation with her mother and niece, Calah was asked where Steven Jr. was. And even though she was making the call from his Kansas City condo, she was still uncomfortable defining her relationship with him.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Calah asked Harlow, and added to her mom, “She’s too smart for her own good.”
“Steven asked me to go to the wedding,” she added. “He wants to try to work things out with me.”

But Calah also admitted that she didn’t know if that was what she wanted. As she put it, “I want to go back to Texas. I want to be around family. But at the same time, I think that I’ve just always held onto that hope.”
How Calah’s sister’s death affected her relationship with the McBee family
Although Calah and Steven Jr.’s relationship issues date back to Season 1, the couple reconciled at the start of Season 2. By then, though, Calah’s friendships with other members of the McBee family — particularly Cole McBee’s girlfriend Kacie Adkison and Jesse McBee’s now-wife Alli Ventresca — had soured.
“After my sister passed away, I was expecting a little bit of love and support, but I got nothing,” Calah said on Season 2, Episode 2. “Nobody reached out to me, not even [Alli and Kacie], who I thought I was close to.”

Kacie later explained the reason for their silence, though: Steven Jr. had allegedly he’d told his family to stop talking to Calah after they split.
This, in turn, caused Calah to confront Steven Jr. “I just talked to Kacie. She said that you were telling [the family] that I hate them, but at the same time, you’re telling me that they hate me,” she explained. “And you literally told them, ‘Calah told me that she hates you guys, so don’t talk to her again.’ You literally cut those ties.”
The conversation between the two quickly became heated, and in the end, Calah declared that she was moving home to Dallas.
