PINEVILLE, Ky. (TCN) — A man has been apprehended in connection with the death of a pregnant woman who was found with her baby removed from her womb.
According to a press release from the Pineville Police Department, officers responded to a call reporting a deceased person on Sept. 23. When they arrived, they located 41-year-old April Barlow Celio. Officials with the coroner’s office determined Celio was a victim of homicide.
Celio was reportedly pregnant when she died, but there was no fetus in her body, according to police. When investigators were processing the scene, they allegedly found fetal remains.
Police identified DeMarcus Kenneth Johnson-Wright as a suspect, and a warrant for his arrest on charges of first-degree robbery and kidnapping was issued Sept. 25. Warrants for his arrest on charges of domestic violence murder and evidence tampering were issued Sept. 30. That same day, investigators learned Johnson-Wright was staying in Clarksville, Tennessee, and he was apprehended by a multi-agency task force.
Following his arrest, Johnson-Wright was booked into jail to await extradition to Kentucky, and a search warrant was executed at the home where he was found. According to police, Johnson-Wright has an extensive criminal history.
According to a GoFundMe started by Celio’s sister, Amanda De Paz, Celio was a mother of three. “There are no words that can truly explain what our family is going through right now. One moment she was here — someone we could call, hug, laugh with, and love — and now we are trying to figure out how to say goodbye to her far too soon. She was very loved by her family.”
