ST. PAUL, Minn. (TCN) — A 36-year-old caretaker was recently indicted on suspicion of fatally shooting a 72-year-old man.
According to an initial release from the Dakota County Attorney’s Office, on the night of April 11, Jacob Audie called 911 after he allegedly shot Michael Schille. Responding officers reportedly located Audie in the parking lot, and he was taken into custody.
Authorities entered the apartment and discovered Schille on a couch in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to his face, and medics pronounced him deceased.
St. Paul Police said they also found an AR-style rifle in the living room, a rifle magazine, and an empty carbine near the victim’s body. Audie reportedly told officers he was Schille’s caretaker, and they had resided together for “the past year or two.” He allegedly claimed he shot Schille with the victim’s weapon.
On Sept. 11, police announced that a jury indicted Audie on one count of first-degree premeditated murder and one count of second-degree intentional murder. If convicted, he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
