Deckhand Luke Brumer’s love triangle on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 11 has rocked the boat, and now, even his job is in major jeopardy.
Luke from Below Deck Med (streaming on Peacock) made no secret of his single relationship status upon coming aboard M/Y Akira One. And though messy boatmances between cast members are hardly a rarity on any of the Below Deck franchises, Luke really landed in hot water when he found himself torn between Gen Lillie and Chef Joy Lefaucheur.
Aside from the hurt feelings involved, Luke only made matters worse for himself after he used boss Nathan Gallagher’s bed for a hookup between charters and ejaculated onto the bosun’s bedsheets. Not only did Luke not tell Nathan about his accident, but he also allowed him to sleep on the unwashed sheets for several days. When he eventually found out, Nathan threatened to fire Luke.

Despite taking a romantic interest in two women, Luke connected with Gen during a night out in Croatia, and the two were “intimate,” including in Nathan’s bed. Afterward, Luke had a change of heart, declaring in an Episode 5 confessional that his romance with Gen had quickly become “a bit too intense” for him.
He sat Gen down and told her that “work has to come first,” vaguely explaining that he wanted to keep things “super professional” between them. “Nobody wants drama, so there’s no triangle anymore,” Luke said. However, Gen interpreted his statement to mean that he’d officially chosen her over Chef Joy.
“I’m trying to phrase his in a way that’s going to hurt her, but I don’t think that she’s picking it up,” Luke added in a confessional. “I need this to be over, but I don’t know how to say that to her without blowing up the boat. … The more time I’m spending with Gen, I’m realizing I’ve made a huge mistake.”
After the charter that was already in progress ended, Luke more explicitly ended his boatmance with Gen in Episode 6.

Having realized that his “heart’s with Joy” after his brief romance with Gen, Luke decided to “try and repair things” with her. He privately admitted to the Below Deck Med chef during a group dinner that he had been “intimate” with Gen, at which point she swiftly shut down his romantic pursuit. “I don’t want him in my life,” Joy remarked in a confessional, before reiterating the same sentiment to him directly.
When Gen pulled Joy aside for a talk shortly afterward, Luke declared that to be the “final guillotine” of his night, realizing that his chances with the chef were officially shot.
Even before she found out what really happened between him and Gen, Joy had already assumed that he’d at least kissed the stew. As she vented to Aesha Scott, “After all this drama with Luke, he can come back crawling, if he wants. But beside this, no.”

After the July 13 Below Deck Med episode aired, Chef Joy appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen and confirmed that she and Luke had “chemistry.” She was not interested in being anyone second choice, though. “He has made his decision and is a grown-up adult,” Joy said. “The fastest way is not always the right decision, which is OK. We make mistakes.”
She concluded, “I’m very proud of me and I think it’s a good demonstration how we should handle this kind of situation and stand up for myself and for all the women in this world. Don’t take any B.S. from men.”

As Nathan further explained to a producer, the fact that Luke had allowed three days to pass without saying anything to him about his sheets is what angered him the most. “He had the opportunity to tell me,” Nathan elaborated. “And the fact that he hasn’t told me, and it’s gone around the boat and everyone else is talking about it, that’s what’s pissing me off.”

Despite all the drama on Below Deck Med, today, Luke is still working in the yachting industry and as a personal trainer, as he’s shared on his personal Instagram account. In a video that he uploaded on June 11, Luke updated fans that he was in Cape Town and “about to join arguably one of the best boats in the business.”
Though he has not directly addressed his short-lived love triangle from the show (or the fallout that followed), Luke expressed through a poem that he has been “learning lessons” after “making mistakes” recently.
He offered another quick life update via social media on June 26, captioning an IG post, “When not at sea, I’ll be in the mountains fresh air. Quiet. Clean water. Morning coffee walks. Being a modern day, off grid caveman.”
