Days After SC Teacher Resigns, Police Charge Him with 8 Counts of Sexual Battery – Crime Online

Police arrested a South Carolina high school teacher on multiple counts of sexual battery just two days after his resignation.

According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, police arrested Micah Lanford September 13 and charged him with four counts of sexual battery of a student (16–17 years old).

He’s accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student at Boiling Springs High School in Spartanburg County.

The investigation began Thursday, according to the school, when Lanford resigned from his teaching position.

The Post and Courier reports that police were alerted to the alleged incident by a “mandated reporter,” meaning someone such as a teacher, social worker, or school employee whose identity will be protected under state law.

After charging him with the initial four counts, police added another four counts of the same charge on Sunday.

Following the arrest, the school district issued the following statement:

The investigation is now in the hands of deputies.

“While we are heartbroken by these allegations, we are thankful that the information was brought to our attention. We are also thankful for an amazing faculty and staff that strives to do the right things every day for our students. Allegations of this kind of behavior will be thoroughly investigated and never will anything but the utmost professionalism be tolerated at Boiling Springs High School.

“Our school and school district will assist investigators in whatever way possible, and support our students with all of our resources.

“Because this is now a law enforcement matter, this is all of the information we can share at this time.

“I thank you for your time and appreciate your faith in us.”

Lanford remains behind bars without bail.

The sheriff’s department spokesperson, Lt. Graham McLellan, said no further information, at this time, will be released.

The investigation is ongoing. Any other victims or anyone with information about Lanford is urged to contact Investigator Michelle James at 864-415-4508.
